The exhibition grounds
Ten halls, several of them on more than one level, connected by walkways and served by their own entrances. Which hall and which level you are allocated changes the build, so it is the first thing to establish once your space is confirmed.
Multi-level halls change the build
Several of the Frankfurt halls are built over two levels. Hall 1 runs to around 18,000 square metres across two storeys, with a column-free upper level and a great deal of natural daylight. Hall 3 has two event levels totalling around 38,000 square metres.
That matters more than it sounds. An upper-level stand has to arrive through goods lifts rather than roll in through a shutter, which puts a real ceiling on component size and weight, and it means a modular design that breaks down into manageable sections is worth far more than it would be on a ground floor. Daylight matters too — a scheme designed under workshop lighting can look completely different under a glazed roof, and screens that read well in a dark hall can wash out entirely.
